Today and tomorrow are the last days to finalize the work, which is being guided by Chantal LaBlanc, an artist from La Muse Studio. Volunteers are still needed!
The mosaic panels will be installed on the exterior of our school and they look great! Featuring native plants, they were created with instruction in French.
Come out and help to finish them if you can. Ask your kids what part they created! Mine proudly told me he made an acorn…
The mural project was funded by your Enrichment donations.
Due to illness, artist Chantal Leblanc has had to reschedule our dates. We are hoping to have a new schedule soon and will let everyone know as soon as possible. Please keep your eyes out for the schedule (it will be sent via e-mail) later today or tomorrow.
This is a great opporunity for student to work en francais on this great art project that will beautify our school. Parent volunteers will be needed for class sessions and for final installation (on October 21, 22). The last two days (Oct. 21/22) in particular will require parent assistance to finalize the panels.
Email firstname.lastname@example.org to be connected to the organizing group. We will post more info on classroom and group collaboration times as it becomes available.
What is the Enrichment Fund?
The Enrichment Fund is a separate collection of money from Hawthorne families that funds hands-on arts workshops and activities. Every year, a fabulous array of Enrichment Activities is programmed by the Enrichment Committee, a dedicated and hard-working group of parents and teachers.
This year workshops include Scientists in the School and fabulous Theatricks Drama Program, a collaborative mosaic mural project for the outside of the school run by Chantal Leblanc involving all grades and instruction in French, dance instruction with Jessica Runge and Ugly Duckling play by Little Red Theatre for grades K to 2. Also, You Dance and Break Dance instruction with Event Horizon for grades 3 to 6.
These activities are only made possible through the Enrichment Fund, a separate collection of money from Hawthorne families to fund hands-on arts workshops and activities.
Why is it important to contribute?
These activities are not funded by the TDSB and it is only through donations that we can continue to provide such wonderful programs. Every year, Hawthorne families are invited to contribute to this fund.
We ask each family to donate $50 per child or $100 per family. If you want to contribute more than the suggested amount, your generosity would be accepted happily. Because Hawthorne has charitable status, you will get a tax receipt for your donation amount.
***This year we need to raise $8,000 to fund our programmed activities. Your donation is required to meet this goal.***
For more details on charitable receipts and payment donations, please see the attached letter and form for this year’s Enrichment Fund donation campaign: Enrichment Letter 2013-2014

Dear Hawthorne Parents,
This week is Enrichment Week!! On Wednesday, October 17th there will be an information booth (with free coffee!) in the main lobby (just outside the gym). Please drop by to learn more about our very important Enrichment events and what this program brings into the school for our kids. You can pick up a form or make your donation at this time. Thanks in advance for your support!
Please donate $50 to the Hawthorne Enrichment Fund. The Enrichment Program funds special performances and workshops for students that enhance their educational experience through a range of media and arts, science and technology, and outdoor education opportunities. Enrichment activities are often bilingual or French and address social justice, ecology, diversity and other key themes that align with the values of our alternative school. These activities are not funded by the TDSB. Please use the Enrichment Letter 2012-2013 and donate by October 19, 2012 to help us budget and book ahead. Tax receipts are issued for all donations to the Enrichment Fund.
