Cross Country Update

There are TWO more practices before the meet: Wednesday Oct. 2nd and Friday Oct. 5th. The Ashbridges Bay race is October 8th and parent volunteers are needed to accompany children to and from the race by TTC.
For practices:
  • Students in grades 3-6 who wish to train at Christie Pits are to meet at the track at 8:00am, do not be late!
  • Students in grades 1 and 2, and any older students who do not wish to run to Christie Pits, should meet at the track at 8:15am.
For the meet on Tuesday Oct. 8th at Ashbridges Bay:
  • We will meet in the gym at 8:00 am to take the TTC there together.
  • It is important that students in grades 1 and 2 are on time and ready to go as your races are first.
We are still looking for 2-3 parent volunteers to accompany us, especially parents of grade 1 and 2 students as they need the most supervision. Their races will be done earlier, so it is possible to volunteer just for the morning and accompany a group of younger students back to school at lunch.
Please let Jessica Haber or Ana Neves know if you are available, or email to be put in touch.

Important Cross Country Info

All primary and junior students will have 3 practices a week – Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8:15 am.
Grades 1-2 will stay on school property, Grades 3-8 will be taken to Christie Pits to train (meet at the school and then travel to Christie Pits with Ana. In order to go to Christie Pits Ana must have your permission form.

Students may be dropped off in the morning on Mon, Wed and Friday at 8:15 am at the track. However, the teacher volunteers who are running the training will not be able to escort the students back to their classrooms (as they have to get to their own classes when the bell rings). If a couple of parent volunteers (who are watching their kids anyway) could help with this (especially for the grade 1 and 2 kids) that would be great.

The South Qualifying Meet for grades 1 to 8 will be at Ashbridges Bay on October 8th. This is the only race for grades 1 and 2.
The South Conference Finals will be at Ashbridges Bay on Monday, October 21st for students who qualify from grades 3 to 8 only.
The City Finals will be at Centennial Park on Thursday, October 24th.

Grades 1-2 will run about 1 km.
Grades 3 will run about 1.5 km
Grades 4-6 will run about 2 km
Grades 7-8 will run approx. 3 km

Parent volunteers for the October 8th race are VERY MUCH needed and appreciated. There will be a lot of kids to organize and we will need your help!

Terry Fox Run – Link for School Online Donations Inside

The Terry Fox run will be held on the afternoon of September 27th.  Your child received a pledge form last Friday but you can also email out a link to the online donation page for our school:

For the day of the run: Parent volunteers are welcome – we will need a few people to help out in the morning to chop fruit and organize drinks (for after the run).  During the run we could use the help of some parents to accompany the classes. Stay tuned for information on the time.

Track Meet Volunteers Needed for Thursday May 16

We need track and field parent volunteers on Thursday, May 16. Hawthorne needs 4 parents to take them to the track meet and at least 3 parents that must be able to return  at the end of  the track meet with coach Ian Barnes (2:30pm).

They do not have to be the same people as,  parents can choose to do either a drop-off or the return back to Hawthorne.   This is a very important job.
The new track meet schedule is on the coach’s door so parents can see when their child’s event is scheduled. See it here: Track Schedule 2013.
