Our Hawthorne and Essex Cross Country Runners from Grades 1-8 ran a great race at Ashbridges Bay today. Congratulations to all runners and a special thank you to our coaches, Ana and Jessica. It was a great day and a fun running season!
- Students in grades 3-6 who wish to train at Christie Pits are to meet at the track at 8:00am, do not be late!
- Students in grades 1 and 2, and any older students who do not wish to run to Christie Pits, should meet at the track at 8:15am.
- We will meet in the gym at 8:00 am to take the TTC there together.
- It is important that students in grades 1 and 2 are on time and ready to go as your races are first.
Our Hawthorne Slo Pitch Team will participate in a Slo-pitch tournament all day Thursday Oct. 3rd at General Mercer school.
All primary and junior students will have 3 practices a week – Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8:15 am.
Grades 1-2 will stay on school property, Grades 3-8 will be taken to Christie Pits to train (meet at the school and then travel to Christie Pits with Ana. In order to go to Christie Pits Ana must have your permission form.
Students may be dropped off in the morning on Mon, Wed and Friday at 8:15 am at the track. However, the teacher volunteers who are running the training will not be able to escort the students back to their classrooms (as they have to get to their own classes when the bell rings). If a couple of parent volunteers (who are watching their kids anyway) could help with this (especially for the grade 1 and 2 kids) that would be great.
The South Qualifying Meet for grades 1 to 8 will be at Ashbridges Bay on October 8th. This is the only race for grades 1 and 2.
The South Conference Finals will be at Ashbridges Bay on Monday, October 21st for students who qualify from grades 3 to 8 only.
The City Finals will be at Centennial Park on Thursday, October 24th.
Grades 1-2 will run about 1 km.
Grades 3 will run about 1.5 km
Grades 4-6 will run about 2 km
Grades 7-8 will run approx. 3 km
Parent volunteers for the October 8th race are VERY MUCH needed and appreciated. There will be a lot of kids to organize and we will need your help!
The Terry Fox run will be held on the afternoon of September 27th. Your child received a pledge form last Friday but you can also email out a link to the online donation page for our school: http://my.e2rm.com/TeamPage.aspx?teamID=407922&langPref=en-CA
For the day of the run: Parent volunteers are welcome – we will need a few people to help out in the morning to chop fruit and organize drinks (for after the run). During the run we could use the help of some parents to accompany the classes. Stay tuned for information on the time.
Hawthorne is holding slo-pitch practices every Monday- Wednesday- Friday after school for the grade 5 and 6 team. Both boys and girls can try out. Starting Wednesday September 11th.
Big thanks to the five Hawthorne athletes that went to the City finals in Track & Field. All finished in the top six of their events — in fact four finished in either 1st or 2nd, winning gold & silver medals ….what an amazing year!
