Student Packages (all of the forms that came home on the first day of school!) are due … please make sure they are given to your child’s teacher or are dropped off directly in Joan’s office.
All primary and junior students will have 3 practices a week – Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8:15 am.
Grades 1-2 will stay on school property, Grades 3-8 will be taken to Christie Pits to train (meet at the school and then travel to Christie Pits with Ana. In order to go to Christie Pits Ana must have your permission form.
Students may be dropped off in the morning on Mon, Wed and Friday at 8:15 am at the track. However, the teacher volunteers who are running the training will not be able to escort the students back to their classrooms (as they have to get to their own classes when the bell rings). If a couple of parent volunteers (who are watching their kids anyway) could help with this (especially for the grade 1 and 2 kids) that would be great.
The South Qualifying Meet for grades 1 to 8 will be at Ashbridges Bay on October 8th. This is the only race for grades 1 and 2.
The South Conference Finals will be at Ashbridges Bay on Monday, October 21st for students who qualify from grades 3 to 8 only.
The City Finals will be at Centennial Park on Thursday, October 24th.
Grades 1-2 will run about 1 km.
Grades 3 will run about 1.5 km
Grades 4-6 will run about 2 km
Grades 7-8 will run approx. 3 km
Parent volunteers for the October 8th race are VERY MUCH needed and appreciated. There will be a lot of kids to organize and we will need your help!
There will be an informal meet-up in the school playground on Wednesday, August 28th from 4 to 7pm for any new JK/SK families and for returning JK/SK families. This is an opportunity for new parents and their kids to meet other Hawthorne children and their families and to find out about kindergarten from the experienced pros and their parents! Please spread the word!
Our new principal, Jim Stathopoulos, is hiring 2 lunchrooms supervisors for Full Day Kindergarten at Hawthorne. The time commitment is 1.25 hours per day, 5 days a week from 11:30-12:45. The candidate does not necessarily need prior experience but should enjoy working with KG students. Anyone who is interested in the job should e-mail Sonia Antunes and Jim Stathopoulos (ASAP – preferably this week) so that they can set up an interview. Please send this along to anyone that you think might be interested.
On behalf of our school community the parent council would like to thank Marc Green for all of his good work at Hawthorne and to wish him the best of luck at his new school.
We would also like to extend a warm welcome to our new principal, Jim Stathopoulos – we all look forward to meeting you and to working with you in the upcoming year!
To our Hawthorne families, teachers and staff – we wish you an excellent summer and will see you in September!!
Thanks to Jane Huggard and her daughter Ada for organizing our annual end-of-year teacher/staff appreciation lunch. And thanks to the many parents who donated delicious home made dishes to make it a special lunch for all of our great teachers and staff.
Our end of the year concert will be on Tuesday, June 11th at 6:30pm. Please put this important date on your calendar!
Rumour has it that kids should go to the library at 6:15 pm.
We are getting ready for GREENSTOCK! – Monday, June 17th, 5:30-8:00 pm
This year we are hoping to have lots of fun field day events … potato sac races, egg and spoon, wheelbarrow, three-legged race …
We will need volunteers to help run these races and if we get enough people helping out all of the kids can participate in different age categories.
A volunteer list is here: Greenstock Volunteer Schedulet. There will be sign-up sheet across from Joan’s office on the main floor. If you are willing to lend a hand we’ll have lots of ways for parents to be involved. We are only asking for 30 minutes of your time to help put together a fun-filled end of year event for the kids. Please keep your eyes out for the sign-up sheet or if it is easier contact email@example.com and I’ll sign you up!! Thanks!!
Hawthorne girls finished in 2nd place at the soccer South championships … a very close game but edged out by Whitney public school 2-1. Great job girls!
15 Hawthorne track and field athletes are going to the South finals at Birchmount Stadium on June 3rd … excellent showing Hawthorne!
Our first ever Ultimate team (grade 5/6) made it to the semi-finals for our region. Way to go!!
An important message from Ian – Please bring back all Hawthorne jerseys … especially parents that picked up their kids from sporting events. We are missing quite a few.
Thank you, Ian
