REMINDER: BAG2SCHOOL Textile Recycling Drive November 15th-19th

Remember to bring your unwanted clean clothing, shoes (tied together please), linen, belts, purses and soft bags to your parent-teacher interviews next week. Instead of being thrown into landfills as garbage, quality textiles can be re-used as affordable second-hand clothing both in North America and overseas. Any items deemed unsuitable for resale will be taken to textile recycling facilities where they will be broken down and remade into useful materials, such as fleece jackets. As an added bonus the school council is paid a small amount per kg that goes back into funding enrichment programming for our students.

Items will be collected starting Thursday Nov. 15th- Monday Nov. 19th. All bags can be dropped off on the First Floor in the Essex Primary Hallway (Guidance Room). Look for yellow signs to guide you from the front foyer.

Lost and found items will be on display in the front hall during the Bag2School Drive.  Any unclaimed items will go to Bag2School on Thursday.

PA Day Chess Tournament coming up!

Hello,

November 16th is a PA day for the TDSB, the TCDSB and the Conseil Scolaire Viamonde – many, many school kids and their families will be looking for a fun and rewarding way to spend the day.

The Chess Institute of Canada (CIC) has just the thing – our popular PA Day Chess Tournaments offer students in Kindergarten to Grade 8 a fantastic day of chess lessons, strategy learning, creative challenges, CFC ranked tournament games, outdoor games & physical activities, pizza lunch & healthy snacks, ribbons, medals and more!

While we may not be currently running a chess club in your school this season, I thought I would share the PA Day Chess Tournament information with you, as it may be of interest to your school community.

If you feel that this information would be of benefit to your school community, I  would be very happy to provide you with a newsletter blurb and/or printed flyers as well as the attached eflyer to help communicate this opportunity.

If you have any questions about the upcoming PA Day Chess Tournament, or about any CIC chess programs, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Cheers,
Katya

Eco committee update

•Boomerang/ Waste Free Lunches are going well.

We noticed that there was a problem on Friday with pizza lunch.
We would like all children to bring their lunch boxes on Friday to ensure that pizza is eaten and there is no recycling or landfill left in the lunch room.
•Skate/ Helmet Exchange will happen in the front foyer from November 9th- November 15th.
Please bring your skates and/or helmet to exchange.
•Please be sure that your children dress for the weather, raincoats, boots, if needed.  Ensure that your children are wearing outdoor and indoor shoes to help keep the dirt outside rather than bring it into the school. There will also be a sign up sheet where you can indicate what you are bringing and what you would like to receive.
Thanks for helping in our Eco Initiatives
